Early Years in Colorado

One gift I was given, probably by Nan for my birthday in March 1955, was a book by an enthusiastic Australian mountain climber, Douglas Busk, entitled The Delectable Mountains. I have loved mountains since my early childhood vacations in the Swiss and Italian Alps, and Nan and I had frequently taken hikes in mountain areas as well as often gone skiing. I had also enjoyed some very modest amateur rock climbing as a child on the beach of New Rochelle in western Long Island Sound.
