The effect of ventilation on supercavity around a supercavitating vehicle during water-entry

2017
A series of experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of ventilation on supercavity around a supercavitating vehicle during water-entry. An elaborate facility equipped with a complete set of measurement and control system was built, and the supercavitating vehicle was typically set to be launched at 20 degrees angle with a speed of 70 m / s. Firstly, the experiment was carried out to investigate the characters of ventilated supercavitation. The cavitation characteristics and the pressure varying with time were described in detail. Subsequently, the contrast experiments without ventilation under the same conditions was carried out. Finally, it was found that the ventilation can increase the pressure in cavity and benefit for the production of supercavity.
