Comparison of HSV and LAB Color Spaces for Hydroponic Monitoring System

Digital image processing can provide significant benefits in various sectors such as agricultural sector. One of digital image processing implementation is plant leaf area calculation in hydroponic monitoring system. A color detection model is required to calculate it. HSV or CIELAB is a color space often used in terms of color image detection. This research aims to compare the accuracy of both methods in reading the number of pixels in the area of plant leaves. The plants used as samples are 3 to 4 weeks old. Results show that CIELAB method has a better accuracy than the HSV method. HSV method has an average accuracy of 75.33% while the CIELAB method has a greater average accuracy of 78.39%.
