The invention provides a method for setting a system working mode of a mobile data terminal. The method provided by the invention comprises the steps of (A) operating a system working mode management application program responding to user input after a system of the mobile data terminal is started; (B) detecting a user request for setting or cancelling the system working mode after the system working mode management application program is operated; (C) in the event of detecting the user request for setting or cancelling the system working mode, requesting a user to input an administrator password, and verifying whether the administrator password input by the user is valid; and (D) setting or cancelling the system working mode according to the user request in the event that the administrator password is valid. By adopting the method provided by the invention, the system working mode of the mobile data terminal can be effectively set, so that the system of the mobile data terminal can be effectively protected.
