Applicability comparison of two indexes for calculating the antibacterials use density

2013
Objective:To acquire a more applicable way of calculating antibacterial use density(AUD)by comparing the accuracy of the practically occupied bed days with the number of discharged patients multiplied by the average hospitalization days. Methods:Monthly AUD from January 2012 to March 2012 and annual AUD from 2009 to 2011of the inpatients of Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center were calculated by two indices, respectively. In detail,AUD1 was calculated by the occupied bed days, and AUD2 was calculated by the number of discharged patients multiplied by the average hospitalization days. The dispersion of AUD1,both monthly and annual, were compared with that of AUD2,respectively.Results:The dispersion of the monthly AUD1 was significantly lower than that of the monthly AUD2,but there were no significant differences in the dispersion of annual AUD1 and the annual AUD2.Conclusion:The applicability of the practically occupied bed days is better than the numbers of discharged patients multiplied by the average hospitalization days in calculating the individual clinical AUD,which can truly reflect the AUD of inpatients.
