La importancia de la pesca en la ocupación y colonización del Sáhara Español durante el franquismo y su vinculación con Canarias

espanolHistoricamente la principal actividad que ha unido a Canarias con el Sahara Occidental ha sido la pesca en el banco pesquero canario-sahariano. Este sector motivo que Espana ocupara el Sahara en 1885 y fue uno de los principales intereses economicos que promovio la colonizacion de lo que fue el Sahara Espanol, actualmente es una pieza clave en las relaciones de Marruecos con Espana y con la Union Europea. Este trabajo pretende analizar el interes que tuvo el sector pesquero en la ocupacion y posterior colonizacion del Sahara durante el franquismo, ya que fue entonces cuando Espana procedio a la investigacion y explotacion de los recursos economicos del Sahara, de los que la pesca es uno de los principales. Asi, el analisis pretende relacionar la explicacion de la evolucion economica, politica y social en torno a este sector en el territorio con el desarrollo socioeconomico de Canarias, debido a la ubicacion geografica que ambos territorios ocupan en el Atlantico. EnglishHistorically, the main link between the Canary Islands and the Western Sahara has been the fishing activity in the Canarian-Saharian fishing bank. This sector motivated Spain’s occupation of the Sahara in 1885 and it was one of the main economic interests that promoted the colonization of what –back then– was the Spanish Sahara, currently being a key element in Morocco’s relationships with Spain and with the European Union. This work aims to analyze the importance of the fishing industry in the occupation and subsequent colonization of the Sahara during Franco’s regime, as it was at that time when Spain started the research and exploitation of Sahara’s economic resources, with fishing being one of the main ones. Thus, the analysis tries to relate the explanation of the economic, political and social evolution around this sector in the territory, as well as in the socioeconomic development of the Canary Islands, given the geographical location of both territories in the Atlantic.
