Les dynamiques des arrière-pays méditerranéens français : Une marqueterie territoriale entre marge et périphérie

Cette contribution vise a porter un nouveau regard sur les arriere-pays mediterraneens francais et les dynamiques de developpement territorial qui les animent. La notion d'arriere-pays est discutee afin d'en definir les contours et de saisir les relations entretenues avec les "avant-pays". Differentes analyses statistiques et cartographiques sont proposees pour mieux caracteriser ces espaces d'arriere-pays et leurs evolutions. Les entrees privilegiees se focalisent sur des indicateurs visant a specifier les fonctions productives, residentielles et touristiques de ces espaces. En variant les indicateurs et les echelles d'analyse, il est possible de differencier des processus et des logiques de developpement. Si la residentialite a tendance a s'affirmer avec une forte homogeneite, en particulier a partir du recensement de 1999, il existe une tres forte heterogeneite de la place des secteurs agricoles et touristiques localement. Plus la maille territoriale est fine, plus l'analyse des arriere-pays fait ressortir une marqueterie de leurs dynamiques de developpement. Abstract : This contribution aims at carrying a new glance on the French Mediterranean back-countries and the dynamic ones of territorial development which animate them. The concept itself of back-country is discussed in order to define contours of them and to seize the relations which they maintain with "front-countries". It is then proposed various statistical and cartographic analyzes for better characterizing these spaces of back-country and their evolutions. The privileged entries are focused on indicators aiming at specifying the productive, residential and tourist functions of these spaces. By varying the indicators and the ladders of analysis, it is possible to differentiate from the processes and the logics of development. If the residentiality tends to continue with a strong homogeneity, in particular starting from the census of 1999, there locally exists a very strong heterogeneity of the place of the agricultural and tourist sectors. The finer the territorial mesh is, the more the analysis of the back-countries emphasizes a marquetry of their dynamic of development.
