Multipart monographic series of fiction and the bibliographic record

2004
Multipart monographic series of fiction are defined as fictional novels that share some common link. A review of the literature and on the job observations showed that even when series information appeared on books that information was not always represented in bibliographic records. A study determined the extent of inaccurate series information on bibliographic records. The study found that 54% of the books with multipart monographic series had some type of error. In addition, data on specific types of errors and the existence of series authority records (SARs) were collected. Despite the significant data gathered, the results offer no explanations as to why these series are so often represented inaccurately.
