70 to 100 percent of malignant tumors are registered in hospital tumor registries (HTRs) because registration of cancer patients is obligatory in most German states. However there is hardly any reliable information for regional quality of patient care. On the other hand only eight prognostic factors are needed to compare the end results for the majority of solid organ tumors [1]. Due to the concept of HTRs it is sufficient in most cases to send the discharge papers to the local HTR in this way minimizing the clinician’s work-load for documentation. Follow-up information is periodically added by the HTR. Therefore HTRs are able to evaluate and compare quality of patient care in their region for internal and external usage.
