Ernährungstrends in der Europäischen Union: Auswirkungen auf den Verzehr von Fleisch/Fleischwaren und anderen Lebensmitteln

1995
People in the countries of the European Union have different eating habits and their pro capita consumption of foods differs greatly from one country to another. What is the effect on consumer demand of changed conditions of life and work, new dimensions in the consumer's ideas of quality, international recommendations on diet and the open borders within the EU? In Central Europe (Germany) there has been an improved market situation for vegetable foodstuffs and a stagnating or slightly declining demand for animal products, including meat and meat products. The proportion growth rate and both the range available and the form of preparation are greatly altered, with the result that it seems to be quite possible to make up for lost proportions of meat and meat products consumed in the home by new opportunities in consumption outside the home. The opening up to borders within the EU has made consumer calculations on the basis of production statistics difficult and the decline in the consumption of meat in Germany and the UK therefore needs to be interpreted with great caution
