The Use of Space-borne Measurements and the Ground-based Swiss Monitoring System for Tracing Atmospheric Pollution

2004
Tropospheric NO2 columns from GOME have been compared with a ground-based system covering the profile with stations situated at different heights. The mode of the observed ground-based concentrations yields a tropospheric column estimate, which is consistent with GOME by factor 2. The correlation is not significant, probably because of the highly variable representativity of the ground stations and coarse resolution of GOME.
