Seepage Characteristics of Unlined Earthen Channels

2008
Effective design of channel is influenced by the parameters of channel geometry and hydraulic conductivity. An attempt has been made during this study to correlate all these parameters such as channel bottom width (B), full supply depth (D), flow depth (d), side slope (Z), elapsed time (t), hydraulic conductivity (K) with seepage loss rate (S). The regression relationship developed considering the above parameters was found appropriate for estimating the seepage loss in sandy clay loam soil within 5% level of significance. Further, Vedernikov's expression was tested with the observed data and found appropriate for seepage estimation in channels of smaller cross-sections only at 5% level of significance.
