Observations on the Efficacy of Yaotu Point Electroacupuncture in Treating Lumbar Intervertebral Disc Protrusion

2008
Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of electroacupuncture of Yaotu point as the main one in treating lumbar intervertebral disc protrusion. Methods A treatment group received electroacupuncture of Yaotu point as the main one plus TDP.A control group received electroacupuncture of lumbar jiaji points as the main ones plus TDP.The degrees of pain relief and the clinical global therapeutic effects were compared at the end of treatment course. Results The efficacy rate in pain relief was 95.6% in the treatment group and 84.6% in the control group.A follow-up of the clinical therapeutic effect showed the efficacy rate was 88.2% in the treatment group and 72.3% in the control group;there was a statistically significant difference(P0.05).The efficacy rate was higher in foot-taiyang meridian type and foot-shaoyang meridian type than in mixed type in both groups. Conclusion Electroacupuncture of Yaotu point as the main one plus TDP has a good therapeutic effect on lumbar intervertebral disc protrusion. The efficacy rate is higher in foot-taiyang meridian type and foot-shaoyang meridian type than in mixed type.
