FOOD CULTURE: AN INTRODUCTION TO CULTURAL STUDY OF FOOD

Food Studies is a field that is emerging at the intersection of disciplines like Sociology, Literature, Anthropology, History, Psychology and even Archeology. Its applications are multifarious, necessitating a separate field of study dedicated to the central theme of food.  The search for food has led man to travel across continents and conquer new territories. Food, in fact, has been so ubiquitous and essential an entity that it seldom gets noticed. The present chapter tries to study the culture of food.
