Microinstability of the Ankle

2021
Microinstability is an emerging concept among the possible causes of ankle symptoms and disability. Injury to the superior fascicle of the anterior talofibular ligament might play a key role in this condition. Microinstability of the ankle is considered as a low degree of mechanical lateral ankle instability. A mismatch between symptoms and imaging is very frequent once current imaging options lack sensitivity to identify this pathology which can latterly be confirmed arthroscopically. Moreover, there are also no reproducible objective findings on clinical examination which also contributes to its poor characterization.
