Power Supply Delay Scheme to Avoid Jerky Motion at Power ON of Gimbaled Sight

2021
Gimbal servo electronics needs to drive motor and generate auxiliary powers for Digital Signal Processor (DSP), FPGA, Logic gates and other electronic components. Control algorithms, modes of operations and logics for smooth operations of sight are implemented in DSP. FPGA has been used for implementing glue logics for interfacing other electronics components and enabling/disabling motor actuation. DSP and FPGA are required to boot-up before rail-voltage and enable signals are available to Servo Power Amplifier (SPA). Gimbal servo electronics is consisting of control electronics and SPA. In gimbaled sight, common power was made available for SPA and control electronics. During FPGA booting, its output pin was high (true). Health status signals were true. It was creating SPA ON condition and power was available to motor for drive. Also, SPA command (DAC output) was high (maximum value) and control system was not effective. This condition was causing jerking motion at Power ON for gimbaled sight. In the proposed scheme, power for SPA and control electronics has been separated. A scheme has been proposed and experimentally verified to delay power to the SPA for smooth switching ON of motors without changing existing electronics hardware.
