Movement Building: Activism in an Age of Crisis

Weizman is founder and director of Forensic Architecture, a research agency which uses analytical tools and techniques that are decidedly architectural in character. The agency is home to a dedicated environmental research unit, the Centre for Contemporary Nature, which has investigated issues from fracking to forest fires. Michael Pawlyn is founder of Exploration Architecture and co-founder of Architects Declare under the wider banner of Construction Declares. Pawlyn describes Architects Declare as a way for architects to maximise their agency encouraging others to do the same, to bring about this necessary shift. Ultimately perhaps, activism is about being in touch with the things that really matter to the reader, at the deeper levels of the people being. It is born of accepting that the people actions will have an impact upon the world, of owning that fact and directing their agency in a proactive way.
