BIOSORPTION OF HEAVY METALS BY SARGASSUM FUSIFORME(HARVEY)SETCHELL BIOMASS

2006
This study assessed the biosorption characteristics of Sargassum fusiforme(Harvey) Setchell biomass, which was harvested from the East China Sea,off the Dongtou islands,Zhejiang,China,to remove lead(Ⅱ) from single ion solution. The maximum biosorption uptake of the biomass is 368.6 mg·g~(-1) at 25℃,corresponding to 3.5 mg·g~(-1),much greater than the reported 2~2.3 meq g~(-1) for Sargassum spp.90% of the biosorption capacity was reached in a contact time of 20 minutes. The Langmuir model fitted reasonably well the isotherms. The results showed that Sargassum fusiforme(Harvey) Setchell biomass is a promising biosorbent for the removal of heavy metals.
