WHAT DOES LANDSCAPE SCALE GOVERNANCE LOOK LIKE? SUPPORTING ADAPTIVE MANAGEMENT IN LANDSCAPES WITH FRAGMENTED HABITAT AND OWNERSHIP

2012
SUMMARY We propose a framework within which to clarify the analysis of landscape scale governance. This is a critical first step towards effective adaptive management across ecologically and socio-economically fragmented landscapes, such as in Britain. The framework draws insights from a range of theory relating to governance, and is illustrated via application to two contrasting case studies in Scotland. We particularly highlight the importance of collaboration, learning and support as dimensions of governance required for the delivery of ecosystem services at the landscape scale.
