Magnetic moment of hyperons in dense matter

2008
We investigate the change of the magnetic moment of hyperons in dense nuclear matter by using relativistic quark models. Hyperons are treated as MIT bags, and interactions are described in terms of mean fields of scalar and vector mesons. Model dependence is considered by comparing quark-meson coupling model and modified quark-meson coupling model, in which the bag constant depends on density for the latter, while it remains constant for the former. Magnetic moments increase with density for most octet baryons, but we find a significant model dependence in the values of the magnetic moments in dense medium. We discuss the correlation between the bag property and the magnetic moment.
