ـــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــ ــــــــــــــــــــــــ ـــــــ ــــــ VALUE OF MULTI-DETECTOR COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY IN DETECTION OF NON-ATHEROSCLEROTIC CARDIO- VASCULAR ABNORMALITIES

2014
Background; Multi-Detector computed tomography-coronary angiography (MDCT-CA) is a fast growing imaging technique employed primarily to diagnose coronary artery disease (CAD). Several finding can also be identified during the examination affect the patient diagnosis and prognosis. Aim of the work; A registry for a large number of patients referred for screening or evaluation for CAD. To evaluate the role of MDCT-CA in the diagnosis of non- atherosclerotic coronary and non-coronary cardiovascular abnormalities. Methods; Study was conducted on 1880 consecutive patients referred for screening and/or evaluation of their CAD. All patients referred from January 2013 till April 2014 was included. Studies were conducted on dual source 64- slices system (Semines Definition at Cairo Scan Radiology Center and Dar El- Fouad Hospital) and Toshiba Aquilion-320 slices system at Nasr City Police Hospital). Results; Non-atherosclerotic related cardiovascular abnormalities judged to be of potential clinical relevance were identified in 156 patients (8.3%). In most of the patients, these abnormalities were previously unrecognized. Most common among the 156 patients were: myocardial coronary bridges (96 patients), congenital coronary artery anomalies (12 patients), largely the right coronary artery from the left aortic sinus (5
