CAI — computer aided instruction

1981
ABSTRACT CAI, Computer Aided Instruction, is a software package developed specifically for the HP1000/FMGR/FORTRAN system. It is a learning-testing aid which uses Programmed Instruction techniques. A CAI course consists of Question and Answer sessions where text and questions are presented to the user. User responses are compared against a menu of correct answers. Correct answers result in continuing through the course, incorrect answers can result in hints, review of previous material or scolding. The software uses standard FMP calls to access CAI material. Each CAI course is a standard type 4 file which contains both the keyword instruction and the interactive dialog material. We have prepared courses to introduce new programmers to RTE-IV, FMRG, the Editor and to our systems. The attributes that we appreciate most are the ease of preparing course material, the acceptance by the users, and the adaptability of the code to implement new capabilities.
