Protective effect of radiofrequency-electromagnetic fields exposure in cell cultures damaged by chemical and physical mutagens

2018
Adaptive response is a well documented phenomenon in radiobiology: pre-treatments with very low doses of mutagens induce protection from a subsequent treatment with a higher dose of the same or another agent. In 2009 our research group evidenced for the first time that pre-exposures of cell cultures at frequencies in use for mobile communications are able to offer protection against the DNA damage induced by chemical mutagens. Later, the investigation has been extended to several cell types in different experimental conditions. In this paper the main results obtained are reported and the gaps in knowledge and the implications of such phenomenon for general population and workers are evidenced.
