A process development unit has been designed for the purpose of demonstrating the feasibility of using an electron-beam (e-beam) processing system to remove sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides and particulate matter from coal combustion gases. The maximum flue gas flow rate is 33,000 acfm at 300/sup 0/F (about 10 MWe equivalent). The design included two specific sites, one in Indiana and the other in Kentucky.
