steadiness of intermittent camera is much better

AbstractThe paper deals with the method to find out the frequency and amplitude of the vibrationbrought by running mechanical cameras, and the result has been analyzed by mathematicaltechniques. It describes the significant errors involved and offer specific guidelines forcamera manufacturing and data processing consideration.IntroductionHigh speed camera using cinefilm generally can be divided into two categories, one isintermittent, the other is rotating prism. The picture taking rate of intermittent camerais 2 f.p.s - 500 f.p.s. (Photo -Sonics 16mm-lw as high as 1,000 f.p.s.) because of theirmechanical structure of the film movement. The picture -taking rate of between opproximately1,000 - 10,000 f.p.s. are of the rotating prism camera with a contineous film drive and thefilm speed are limited by film strength. The vibration of 16mm rotating prism camera willbe discussed in this paper not only because the picture steadiness of intermittent camerais much better than rotating prism camera but also the potential applications of therotating prism camera in the high speed photography field. Needless to explain, therotating prism high speed camera would produce less sharp pictures than the intermittentcamera because an increase in the rotating angle of the prism would sharply increaseaberration.Mr. Koreeda and Mr. Yamamoto believed that one of the most important factors whichproduces the picture unstability is slip between film and sprocket)- So these two gentlemendeveloped a two sprockets system in 1968. Compare with one sprocket system, one sprocketfor film drive, the other for registration in order to make the tension applied to thephotographic surface of the film maintain constant.A very simple method was used to find out the unsteady value of single sprocket, shown inFigure 1, and two sprockets system, shown in Figure 2. The vibration value can be made asan error consideration of the camera during data processing and the design reference forcamera manufacturing company.RotatingprismRotating
