Cardiac fibrosis is an unavoidable consequence of chronic insult to the myocardium, characterized by wall stiffening, reduced contractility, and impaired overall heart performance. As a maladaptive response, cardiac myofibroblasts (myoFbs) mediate fibrosis by the excessive deposition of connective tissue in the interstitial space.
