New materials from high-pressure high-temperature processes. Final report, 22 April 1965--21 April 1969

1969
High-pressure (to 80 kbar) high-temperature (to 2500/sup 0/C) synthesis work to obtain entirely novel chemical compositions and structures briefly is reviewed. Much of the work was devoted to identification and characterization of new sulfides and selenides, and determining the conditions under which these materials are formed. The crystal structure and superconducting behavior of a new high temperature polymorph of CaSi/sub 2/ was investigated.
