Simulation and Rejuvenation for Chinese Fading Paint Under Ultraviolet

It is known that the Chinese painting has changed with the passage of time—some pigment has been darker and blacker, such as minimum and vermilion. So simulating the effects of aging and rejuvenating of paintings has great significance. This paper proposes a knowledge-based approach to simulate the fading states by physical experiment, by the aging phenomena of pigment and substrate caused by ultraviolet light. The exponent fading model was established by the spectral reflectance of color pigment ink and rice paper at different aging process, then the color was simulated by color mapping algorithm. The experiment shows that the work was effective and reflected the color fading rules, and it is of great significance for the precious heritage of the original color reproduction.
