Turmeric: A Medicinal Plant having Medicinal Importance against Cancer

Currently cancer is a global problem among the developed and developing countries. The dire consequences of the cancer are increases continuously due to lack of our knowledge in the early stage detection. Along with the permanent cure of the different types of cancers is the other reason for the eradication. Cancer is a multistep process which starts with initiation, leads to promotion and end with progression of malignant tumours. Progression with metastatic stage is the primary reason for the unresponsiveness of different of therapies currently available in the practice. There is presence of different treatment choices like as chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery in present time. The most promisive strategy to diminish the morbidity and mortality of cancer is application of chemoprevention but it has so many side effects including its cost. Medicinal plants having anticancerous properties are strong alternatives of the present different treatment choices like as chemotherapy, radiotherapy etc. because medicinal plants have effective treatments without or negligible side effects. Here we describe about one of the important medicinal plant Turmeric which have strong anticancerous properties due to presence of bioactive compound curcumin.
