The method comprises the following steps of taking a user identification as a request parameter to request the application identification of an application relevant to the user corresponding to the user identification from a server; receiving the application identification returned by the server; taking the application identification returned from the server as a request parameter to request the identification of a characteristic image relevant to the application corresponding to the application identification from the server; receiving the identification of the characteristic image returned from the server; according to the identification of the characteristic image returned from the server, obtaining a corresponding characteristic image; and displaying the obtained characteristic image for the user to select one of the characteristic images to use as the image identification of the user. According to the technical scheme of the invention, an image identification determination mode is provided for an application platform website, so that the user can have greater will to determine the image identification when using the application platform website so as to increase the user image identification providing rate of the website.
