TREATMENT OF ACROMEGALY BY CRYOSURGERY
1972
Abstract Clinical and endocrinological evaluation is described in thirteen acromegalic patients treated by stereotaxic trans-sphenoidal cryosurgery to the pituitary gland; the mean follow-up time is two years. All patients tolerated the procedure well and complications were few. In every case there was rapid clinical improvement in symptoms and signs accompanied by a fall in growth-hormone levels. Two patients subsequently developed extrasellar extension and required craniotomy. At present all patients are in clinical remission.
