Fine mapping of DNA markers linked to the high temperature-sensitive genic male sterility gene in rice (Oryza sativa L.)

2012
The hybrid rice can be produced by two line method using environmentally-sensitive genic male sterility line including photoperiod sensitive genic male sterility (PGMS) and thermo-sensitive genic male sterility (TGMS) lines. The function of male sterility gene is not yet clearly known. In this study, the Indel DNA markers linked to tgms locus in the cross B8 (IR75589) x Azucena have been reported. One hundred and twenty one male sterile individuals from 527 F 2 were used for fine mapping of this gene. Tgms gene was mapped to the interval between 2gAP003974 (genetic distance 0.4 cM) and 2gAP005756 (genetic distance 2.4 cM) markers. Information obtained from Gramene rice database indicated that these two markers are on chromosome 2 at 5.9 and 7.26 Mb, respectively. These DNA markers linked to TGMS will be further useful for rice breeding.
