Gobierno y liderazgo jesuítico-guaraní en tiempos de guerra (1752-1756)

2008
This article, through the study of an episode of high political significance –the so-called “Guarani War” (1753-1756)- will analyse the construction of authority and leadership among the reduced Guarani people, in wartime. In this regard, this paper will delve into the different levels of indigenous authority ( cabildo and caciques ) as well as in their interrelation with Jesuit authorities. On the other hand, it will report –through specific cases– about the characteristics and the extent of indigenous leadership, which is evident in the war of the Guarani peoples against the Portuguese-Spanish army.
