Abstractions in Modeling of Switching DC/AC Power Converters

2021
This paper presents an overview of the relationships between different mathematical models of switching DC/AC power converters, which are becoming increasingly important in modern power grids. A voltage-source converter system is considered, and described using two types of switching models, averaged models in stationary and rotating coordinate frames, a linearized model and a model using exact time-discretization. All models follow the notation of control theory, and different interpretations of state and input between model types are presented. Simulations are performed with input signals calculated based on a differential flatness approach to demonstrate the differences in input signals and state trajectories between the models.
