Codes over Z4 for PAPR and BER reduction in OFDM communication system

2018
The most known inconvenience of the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is the high value of its Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR). This factor has an impact on the autonomy of terminals supported by systems using OFDM, hence the reduction of the ratio is inevitable for industrial applications. The channel coding is one of the techniques used for this purpose. In this work we introduce the impact of two linear codes over Z4 on PAPR. In addition, we propose a genetic decoding algorithm to improve the quality of transmission in terms of Bit Error Rate (BER). The numerical results obtained confirm an important gain in terms of PAPR and BER in comparison with the transmission without coding and with the technique based on the biased code BCH(15, 7).
