언어와 문화의 상관성 훈련을 기반으로 한 대학생의 영어어휘력 증진 방안에 대해서

Learning vocabulary in a second language is a cumbersome process at a depth to satisfy every learner. The main purpose of this paper is to examine how and to what extent the team-projects based on the relations between culture and language influence EFL students’ vocabulary learning and ability in a university setting. In order to accomplish this goal, this study provides a quantitative analysis of the pre-post vocabulary test result from 24 participants by the use of SPSS software, and it also conducts a qualitative analysis from semi-structured interview data of 9 volunteers. The findings show that learning vocabulary in/through culture has a positive influence on students’ motivation and intentional learning strategies as well as the improvement of vocabulary ability. In addition, team-based cooperation can help learners increase their social and cognitive strategies in vocabulary learning. Based on the results, this study suggests that teachers ought to consider the sociocultural and contextual conditions conducive to English words and expressions when designing vocabulary activities.
