Factors associated with therapeutic compliance in COPD

2017
Background: An appropriate treatment compliance is a relevant factor to achieve the control of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary disease (COPD). The objective of this study was to establish COPD treatment compliance in a clinical setting, trying to correlate this compliance with the clinical results of. Methods: We design an observational, cross-sectional and multicentre study. Inclusion criteria: over 40 years old, FEV1/FVC post-bronchodilator Results: 139 patients were evaluated. 20,1% has poor compliance of the inhaled treatment recommended. Poor compliant patients were more symptomatic (mMRC dyspnea grade), had a higher Charlson index, had more frequent depressions (Beck questionnaire ≥ 14 and HAD questionnaire) and had a more sedentary way of llife (IPAQ questionnaire Conclusions: The adherence to inhaled treatment is not good in almost one fifth of COPD patients. In these patients there is a higher prevalence of depression. Also, the poor treatment compliance is related to a lower physical activity rate, a higher basal dyspnea index and a higher frequency of comorbidity. Study supported by Menarini. T1. Main characteristics of evaluated patients with treatment compliance over 80% or under 80%.
