Congenital Rubella Syndrome

Congenital Rubella Syndrome (CRS) is still not eradicated in developing countries inspite of widespread vaccination for rubella. CRS is one of the important etiology for congenital cataract and association of congenital heart disease(CHD) in these patients are high. Thus any patient who presents for congenital cataract needs to be fully investigated for CHD before planning for surgery even if patient is asymptomatic.
