Imaging Analysis of Testicular Neoplasms and Tumor-like Lesions

2013
Purpose To discuss the imaging features of testicular neoplasms and tumorlike lesions on CT, MRI and color Doppler ultrasound. Materials and Methods A total of 37 cases were enrolled in the study, among which 9 cases received plain and enhanced MRI scans, 22 routine plain and enhanced CT scans, and 24 ultrasound exams. Results Germinoma accounted for 70.3% (26/37), in which seminoma were 54.1% (20/37), non-seminoma 16.2% (6/37); non-germinoma 10.8% (4/37); tumor-like lesions 18.9% (7/37). Most cases showed solid heterogeneous echoes on ultrasonography. There was intense blood flow in most of tumors, whilst no blood flow was revealed in tumor-like lesion. MRI and CT revealed enhancement of tumors in different degrees while no obvious enhancement of tumor-like lesions. The MRI and CT features of seminoma were significantly different from those of other tumors. Conclusion Imaging is important in the diagnosis, prognosis and follow-up of testicular neoplasms and tumor-like lesions. In particular, MRI plays a major role in the understanding of histological structure and differential diagnosis of benign and malignant tumors.
