On critical design parameters of reinforced thermoplastic pipes associated with the pipe-lay installation

2017
ABSTRACTThe Reinforced Thermoplastic Pipe (RTP) is currently used in offshore oil and gas industry worldwide. In this paper, a newly designed fibre reinforced RTP have been experimentally investigated, including its mechanical properties, multilayer structures’ elastic-plastic constitutive function, etc. These properties are then utilized in the numerical models for further applications. In addition, the sensitivity study of various critical parameters in its pipe-lay installation has been also carried out. The hydrodynamic coefficients for reel-lay vessel are derived from 3D diffraction theory and they will be integrated with finite element model of RTP as inputs to perform pipe-lay installation analysis. The purpose of this research is to propose the procedures to standardize the dynamic response analysis of composite pipes in offshore engineering, which could be parts of guidelines accepted by various class societies. Finally, the evaluation flowchart which could be applied to the installation design h...
