Differences of Tamm-Horsfall-Glycoproteins from Healthy Probands and Recurrent Renal Stone Formers as revealed by Ftir-Spectroscopy

1993
Tamm-Horsfall glycoprotein (THP) is the most abundant protein in human urine. The carbohydrate moiety accounts for 30% of the molecule per weight. It is present in the kidneys of all placental mammals. The physicochemical and biological properties of THP have been studied extensively, but its function has remained obscure1). Because THP is present in various amounts in renal stones, it has been proposed to play a role in renal stone formations.
