Developmental Hip Dysplasia

2017
Developmental hip dysplasia is an umbrella term describing all forms of abnormal development of the hip joint starting in utero. The overall incidence is 1–2/1000 live births with ethnical and geographical variance. The absolute necessity for successful management is early diagnosis and treatment – screening is both paramount and mandatory. The natural history is uniformly unfavorable – persistence/worsening of the dysphasia with early osteoarthritis and lifelong disability.
