A METHODOLOGY FOR TYRE NOISE ASSESSMENT BASED ON INDOOR TESTS

2015
This paper deals with modal analysis and noise source mapping of a pneumatic tyre. The idea is to combine the information coming from vibration analysis and noise source localization in order to distinguish the different excitation mechanisms which are responsible for the noise generation (such as tread impact, stick/slip and air-pumping). Modal analysis has been performed adopting 270 accelerometer channels and a laser scanner vibrometer. The acoustic experimental tests have been carried out by means of a microphone array with up to 1230 measurement nodes and the acquired data have been processed with both beamforming and planar near-field acoustic holography techniques. The data collected will be used to develop efficient noise predictive tools and comprehensive guidelines for tyre optimal design.
