The problems of water environment in the Pearl River Delta Economic Zone during sustainable developing

On the basis of analysis of water environment status and pollution sources it is suggest that the domestic sewage is regarded as the most primary pollution source in the Pearl River Delta Economic Zone in present. New concepts of “the damage coefficient”, “the rehabilitation coefficient” of water resources for quality and “the damage volume of water resources for quality” are proposed to be used to assess macroscopically the bearing capacity of water resources and sustainability of water environment. The results calculated indicated that the damage volumes of water resources for quality will be up to 95\^2, 140\^7 and 169\^7 million m\+3 in 2002, 2010 and 2020, which can be used by population of about 0\^73, 1\^01 and 1\^16 million for one year, respectively. The sort order of the water environmental quality from higher to lower is JiangmenZhaoqingHuizhouFoshanShenzhenZhuhaiGuangzhouZhongshanDongguan.
