ATTENUATING PROGRESSION OF CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE (CKD)

2005
CHRONIC renal failure is a relentlessly progressive disorder leading to irreversible loss of renal function, irrespective of the fact that the initiating cause of chronic renal failure may no longer exist or may have been treated. The treatment of end stage renal disease (ESRD) is exorbitantly expensive and not affordable by the vast majority of ESRD patients in our country [1]. Therefore it becomes all the more important that either the development of chronic kidney disease is prevented [2] / or the progression of chronic kidney disease halted or slowed down [3]. Recently, NKF-K/DOQI has adopted the term Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and defined it as [4].
