Abstract The retention times of forty-five saturated aliphatic esters were measured by gas—liquid chromatography on an SE-30 column at five temperatures between 120 and 210°. The logarithms of the relative retention times of these compounds were correlated accurately by an eleven-parameter equation, using the D arc topological system. By establishing the relationship between these structural parameters and temperature it was possible to calculate the retention times of the forty-five esters at any temperature between 140 and 210°.
