Glucocorticoid deficiency (atypical hypoadrenocorticism) and exocrine pancreatic insufficiency in a German Shepherd Dog

2000
A 15-month-old German Shepherd Dog was diagnosed with exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, but failed to respond to treatment. The major clinicopathological abnormalities detected were lymphocytosis and eosinophilia. A diagnosis of primary atypical hypoadrenocorticism (glucocorticoid deficiency) was confirmed by a lack of response to an adrenal stimulation test and normal plasma ACTH concentration. Response to oral prednisolone therapy was excellent, abolishing clinical signs.
