SUSTAINABLE LIFESTYLES? MICROSIMULATION OF HOUSEHOLD FORMATION, HOUSING CHOICE, AND TRAVEL BEHAVIOR. IN: SOCIAL CHANGE AND SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT

2002
The paper outlines a modeling framework in which household formation, housing choice, and daily mobility are modeled in three microsimulation modules interlinked by a common disaggregate database. This approach sees fundamental lifestyle decisions linked to phase of life and income as strongly influencing spatial behavior with respect to choice of residence and job location as well as mobility patterns. Urban models are made rich in behavioral content and more responsive to land use and travel demand management policies by microsimulation. Equally, the higher spatial and temporal resolution will also make them suitable to model micro-scale environmental phenomena such as traffic noise and air pollution.
