Susceptibility of HeLa (cancer-origin) cells to a sub-fraction of latex B-serum.

cultivated for rubber elastomer contained in its latex, is also known for other valuable constituents. The latex itself contains proteins, lipids, quebrachitol, ribonucleic acids and organic salts in relatively small amounts, consistent with its cytoplasmic nature. While some of the diverse inherent constituents of Hevea have been acknowledged and further developed, research on the therapeutic potential of the plant however remained scarcely explored. Hevea leaf hydroxynitrile lyase, for example, has been employed to synthesise active cyanohydrins for use as pharmaceuticals. Elsewhere, some of the early work on antioxidants and lipids of Hevea latex were rather aimed at improving the properties of rubber elastomer for manufacturing.
