Biochemical assessment of vitamins and trace metals.

1993
Biochemical determinations of micronutrient status are generally objective, specific, and sensitive. Although many analytic procedures have been described, the clinical laboratory must be selective. Most biochemical tests are of necessity static measures, that is, nutrient concentration at a point in time. Functional tests are generally considered preferable, but presently, few nutrients can be determined functionally using procedures suitable for the clinical laboratory.
